Robert K. Scott, Managing Partner
Robert K. Scott is a well-known trial attorney, specializing in all aspects of insurance “bad faith” litigation. Mr. Scott has practiced law in California for over 30 years. While maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics, he has obtained multi-million dollar judgments, favorable appellate decisions and arbitration awards, as well as substantial out-of-court settlements on behalf of his clients.
Mr. Scott attended United States International University, receiving a B.A. in 1971. In 1975, he obtained his J.D. from California Western School of Law, where he now sits on the Board of Trustees and is a member of the Executive Committee. Mr. Scott initially practiced labor law but after joining the pioneer of insurance “bad faith,” Attorney William M. Shernoff, Mr. Scott focused exclusively on suing insurance companies on behalf of consumers and businesses in California. In 1989, Mr. Scott opened the doors of Shernoff & Scott in Newport Beach, California, continuing to avidly pursue the protection of insured’s rights. In 1996, Mr. Scott went into private practice as the Law Offices of Robert K. Scott, expanding his practice to include personal injury, wrongful termination, elder abuse and wrongful death.
Mr. Scott is a frequently invited lecturer and speaks nationwide on insurance related topics. He is a frequent author and consultant on insurance related legal matters. Mr. Scott is co-author, with colleague and former California Trial Lawyers Association President, Douglas K. deVries, of “Establishing Insurance Bad Faith” in the Insurance Settlement Handbook, published by James Publishing Company.
Mr. Scott is currently Chairman and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of Irvine Regional Hospital and Medical Center and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Irvine Cancer Center. In addition, Mr. Scott has served on the Board of the American Bar Association Tort and Insurance Practice sub-committees on Disability, Health and Life Insurance. He is also a member and the former Chairman of the Committee on Group Insurance Programs of the State Bar of California. Mr. Scott has served as a member of the California State Bar Court (discipline arm of the State Bar), and as a Special Prosecutor for the California State Bar and as Special Master for the California State Bar.
